abc wednesday - Q is for "quintessential"

And for me, a kir at the Flore is the
quintessential Paris cafe experience.
I know, I know—the Flore is overpriced
and full of tourists. But when I first
went there, it still managed to be
the neighborhood cafe (even with Sartre
at one table and Marlene Dietrich at
another)—and so it's still dear to my heart.
Besides, I can nurse a drink for a very, very
loooong time!

  1. Kirs are my favorite drink in Paris, too. I prefer the regular ones to a kir royal. I could slurp up your photo....or nurse it.

  2. Nursing a Kir or a glass of wine for a long time, "en bonne compagnie", in a prestigious or not café, this brings back sooooo many memories !!! I should do it again !!
Hope I'll be able to join you next time you go to the Flore !!!!

  3. I hope to join you all, too! I'm happy to pay for the experience of soaking up the Flore, and nursing a drink for hours? Easy!

  8. Okay, you all know that the comment from lilascott is really from me (not my daughter Lila), right?

  9. Believe it or not, I have never been to Paris!! That cafe sounds worth a visit though, even if it is expensive. :)

  10. Hemingway's Paris

"If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast."

Cafe life a great place to relax and watch the world go by. Quintessential the most perfect embodiment of something.

    Pour Moi... Paris.

  11. Nursing a drink for a long time is surely commendable but one can miss out on a lot of fun that way.

For atmospheric music I’ll take this one. But I want the waitress to approach our table this way. Anything less and it’s no deal.

  12. Jay—what are you waiting for? Book a flight now!
Velia—thanks! (That book came out when I was living in Paris, and I devoured it!)
TG—the music you chose seemed vaguely "Japanese" to me. Wonder why. Loved the addendum—both the music and the b&w images. (P.S.—Yes, I can nurse a drink, but I'm also perfectly capable of guzzling when it's called for!)
Sylvia & Tumblewords—care to join us?

  13. Alexa, whenever I see lilascott somewhere now, I assume it's you. ;) If it happens to really be your Lila, I wonder if I'll be able to tell the difference?

  14. Quelle chic!! The first time I heard of kir and kir royale was when I was in New Orleans. Then I remember see it on menus at various restaurants and bars in the Provence area.
