photo Hunter — "balanced"

My idea of a balanced meal: fried oysters
and a bloody Mary. Oysters for protein,
and they're breaded so you have carbs.
And tomato juice is a vegetable right?
(Oh wait, tomatoes are a fruit. But
there is a celery stalk, so there you go!)

[See how others interpreted "balanced" here.]

  1. I prefer mine on the half shell. Oh, wait. We’re talking oysters here. I usually get mine to go.

Oh, oh. Why is my nose itching?

You have a veritable salad on a skewer up there. Nothing healthier than that.

Bon appetite. I hope you enjoyed those guys as much I have gazing upon them via such a scrumptious photo.

  2. Sounds good to me, Alexa! I can't eat raw oysters, but love them most other ways when cooked!

  3. That's the first thing I thought of this week...was a balanced meal.

Now, I'm hungry. But oysters...well, you can have 'em. I'll take butterflied shrimp tho. LOL

  5. Gary, that oyster sandwich looks GOOD!

Alexa, great post. For those of us who rationalize their 'bad' food intake, this is comforting! :) I love oysters and your photo makes me want to dig right in. I like them raw, in oyster stew, in a sandwich, fried...

  10. That works for me. Nothing better than a really good Bloody. I like olives in mine too. Now about those fried oysters. Monsieur......I'll have what she's having, s'il vous plait!

PS BTW in Paris they eat them au naturel with maybe a squirt of lemon or spoon a titch of vinegar on them and then......get this............they drink the juice out of the shell! I swear! Peter showed me how to do it. Now wouldn't you think that would be something we'd do down here in Alabama but certainly not Paris. Who knew!

  12. Thanks for your comments, y'all!
    TG -- priceless.
Virginia -- I thought raw oysters were always slurped straight from the shell along with their juice. Hey, maybe that's because I learned to eat oysters in Paris.
