Photo Hunt—"two"
| You don't often see two of these, do you? In fact, I didn't see them at all—this shot was taken by my daughter Lila, who chose a good moment to glance out the office window. |

Photo Hunt—"light"
I've experimented with shooting directly into the sun before—and it usually results in a blown-out, unusable picture. But I kind of like this one. [To see more "light," visit tnchick's meme.] |

Photo Hunt—"broken"
. . . but these remnants of a colossal statue of Emperor Constantine still exude a sense of power. It was originally made almost 2,000 years ago and these marble parts were discovered more than five decades ago. They were brought up to the Capitoline Hill by Michelangelo and remain there, in the courtyard of the Capitoline Museum. [To see more things that are "broken," visit tnchick's meme.] |

Photo Hunt—"public"
| New York City has lots of public spaces—but if you asked someone to name them, first on the list would surely be Central Park. This is the Mall, the only straight path in the entire park. The majestic elms that line it are one of the largest (and one of the last remaining) stands of these trees in North America. Photo Hunt—"symbolic"
| In Florence, this Agnus Dei symbol flies high above the Orsanmichele, once a grain market, then a church, and now also a museum. [To see more symbols, visit tnchick's meme.] |

Photo Hunt—"one"
| I was in the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, in Rome, and I saw this child's mother give him a coin and heard her tell him he could light precisely one candle. Well, i ragazzi saranno i ragazzi. Mom moved away, and the kid lit his one candle, then proceeded to add about 10 more! (She didn't scold him, btw.) [To see more "ones" visit tnchick's meme.] |

Photo Hunt—"painted"
| These guys were out early on the bridge, refreshing the line that divides the walkers from the bikers. Unfortunately, the tourists don't always recognize this division, and tend to wander into the bike lane. I can't even tell you how many people I've pulled out of the way of enraged cyclists— hey, they're just trying to get home! [To see more, visit tnchick's meme.] |

Dusty?
| The category for today's Photo Hunt is "dusty." I'm not saying these books are—but just going by how often I have to deal with my own bookshelves, I'd have to say the potential is there. I could farfouille (rummage about) in here for hours—how about you? [See more "dusty" posts here, at tnchick's meme.] |

| Here's your road right here! My daughter Lila took this shot when she and her sister, Kate, drove this most famous American road between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. [See more roads here, at tnchick's meme.] |

Trees
| Credit for this goes to my daughter Lila, who took the picture somewhere in Paris. (For some reason, it makes me think of Baudelaire.) [To see more trees, go to tnchick's meme]. |

| Up on the towers of Notre Dame, the chimera are free to fly off (if they could), but the humans are caged for their own protection—and that of the people below! |

Photo Hunt — "license plate "
| Was strolling past this biker bar in Red Hook, Brooklyn on a lazy Sunday when I spotted this bench. Don't know how comfy it is, but that's probably not the point anyway. [See more license plates here, at tnchick's meme.] |

photo Hunt — "machine"
| A gorgeous day in Trastevere, in Rome. I'm focusing on the sun shining on the ochre buildings and the cobblestones, worn down by many centuries of Romans and visitors to this beautiful city. And what is my friend (the guy) focusing on? That's right—machines! [See more machines here, at tnchick's meme.] |

Photo Hunt — "self-portrait"
This mirror had been put out in the filthy NYC snow—I couldn't resist. My friends and family will tell you that this is a very accurate portrait of someone who will take a picture of pretty much anything! [See more self-portraits here, at tnchick's meme.] |

Photo Hunt — "mostly black"
| On the outside, a gondola must (by decree, since 1562) be black. But on the inside . . . How gorgeous is this scarlet interior? [See more things that are "mostly black" here, at tnchick's meme.] |
