Hard to choose one for this category! In the end,
I picked bad boy Michelangelo Merisi da CARAVAGGIO—
this is his "Calling of St. Matthew," one of three
of his paintings in the church of San Luigi dei Francese, in
Rome. (And one of 12 Caravaggios I saw on that trip to Italy,
many of them in churches, where you don't have to pay
to look and there aren't 30 other people
sharing your viewing space. Nice.)
Oh, well done for making a choice, Alexa! That would be tough. I find Caravaggio's works magnificent, but they scare the heck out of me!
ReplyDeleteSo you're choosing a category for each letter, then posting something from that category? Interesting approach!
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about art, in terms of who painted what and when. It's an interesting painting though. It must have been done as a 'modern' interpretation, it seems to me. Quite fun, when you think about it!
Shell -- yes, it was a toughie. And I find his stuff incredibly exciting. (Always did go for the bad boys.)
ReplyDeletegorgeous painting Alexa & great choice for A. I wish I would have thought of it for mine!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great way to view wonderful works of art.
