See you in November

I've borrowed this photo of Recoleta Cemetery
from my daughter Lila.  She took it
a few years ago when she was in Buenos Aires,
where I've been this past week.
Now I'm in Montevideo, and tonight I'm going
to board a ship and head south, where
there will be only the sketchiest Internet connection—
or, more likely, none whatsoever.
I'll be home and blogging again on Nov. 28.
Please come back then; I'm hoping to
have a whole lot of pictures to share with you.

Buon compleanno

This one's for my daughter Lila, because
today is her birthday—and she's
celebrating in Florence, where I took
this photo in May.

Crazy for Christmas

As we open presents and drink eggnog

(and eventually, wine!), sooner
or later someone (or several someones)
wind up decorated with ribbon
from the packages.  Don't be mad at me for
posting this, Lila—you look cute!

Thursday Challenge—"hair"

I may not have a lot of hair (perpetual
pixie cut)—
but my daughters definitely do
(thanks to those good Sicilian genes
from their father's side of the family, probably)!

The Weekend in Black and White

I did not take this picture, but the person
who did absolutely captured my
daughter Lila—whose birthday is tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Lila!

Istanbul

I've borrowed this photo from my daughter
Lila—the magical blue hour, with
a full moon rising over the Bosphorus.

The Weekend in Black and White

Like mother, like daughter.
But even when we're taking pictures
of the exact same thing,
Lila's

are almost always better than mine.

inSPIREd Sunday

Another shot from my daughters' recent
trip to Turkey—this one that Lila took
in the breathtaking 17th-century Sultan Ahmet
(aka, the Blue) Mosque, in Istanbul.

Topkapi Palace

My daughters went to Turkey for Thanksgiving
(yeah, yeah, I know) and I couldn't resist
borrowing this image from Lila.  It's possible that
you may be seeing a couple more pics
from Istanbul and beyond.

Calling all sea creatures

On Saturday, my daughter Lila and her friends
marched in Coney Island's yearly Mermaid Parade
(in honor of a departed friend, their intrepid
and much loved leader in parades past).
I loved seeing all those who come out to march—lots

of fun whatever your age, breed, or state of (un)dress!

The Weekend in Black and White

I posted this shot (borrowed from
my daughter Lila) before I
 left
NYC for my mini tropical getaway—so

I hope that only gentle breezes (and not this)
is what I'm enjoying here right now.

Weekend Reflections

I borrowed this bucolic reflection from
my daughter Lila, who got in a boat and rowed
out on a pond to capture this shot of
her friends' home north of New York City.

ABC Wednesday—I is for "ice"

Makes me shiver just looking at this scene—
welcome to summer in Antarctica.  I
borrowed the picture from my daughter Lila
(who traveled there with her sister last year).

Weekend Reflections

I borrowed this photo from my daughter
Lila, who shot this display of sparkly
green glassware at the Brooklyn Flea
(which I've featured before).

Skywatch Reflections

I'm borrowing this idyllic image from my
daughter Lila, who took it when she was out
on Fire Island, off the south shore of
Long Island. I'm headed out to Montauk (at the
eastern tip of LI) today—and hoping for
photo ops (and good weather) just like this.

Orange You Glad It's Friday

I understand most of the random stuff
I find when I'm crossing the Brooklyn Bridge,
but I had no idea why these balloons were
there at 8 a.m. on a recent Wednesday.  But it was
my daughter Lila's birthday, so I just told
myself that they were there for her!  Why not?

ABC Wednesday—W is for "web"

Credit goes to my daughter Lila, who found this
crazy web at the Recoleta Cemetery, in
Buenos Aires. What do you think—spider on crack?

Guarding the Red Door

I'd love to be able to say that I shot this image,
but it was taken in Buenos Aires earlier this year
by my daughter Lila, whose "eye" is 10 times better
than mine.  At least she was using my camera.  :~}

Shadow Shot Sunday

I borrowed this one from my daughter
Lila, who shot these bold shadows in
bright, bright sun in Machu Picchu.

Skywatch Friday

Apparently, I'm not done pilfering photos from
my kids' recent trip to Antarctica.  But can you blame
me?  This spectacular sunset (not that it ever completely
sets there at this time of year) was shot by my daughter Lila.
