Skywatch Friday

My cousin Beth took this shot of me
gathering blog fodder (and
also enjoying this soothing sunset).

{And though this is not an official City Daily Photo
blog, it seems I'm joining in with the
1st of the month theme: Photographing
the Photographer.}

sunset

I'm back in Cape May for the weekend
and hoping to enjoy
more
sensational sunsets like this one.

Thursday Challenge—"sun"

Quite a departure from yesterday's post,
and I sure hope this doesn't presage anything.
This was yet another incredible
sunset over the Delaware Bay, taken from
the beach in Cape May, NJ—and
(I swear) totally unretouched!

Skywatch / Reflections

I spent the New Year weekend down in
Virginia.  When I flew home a
couple of days ago, bad weather around the
country meant that my 2 p.m. flight
finally took off after 5.  On the other hand,
the late-afternoon light gave me
this subtle sunset and cloudy reflection.

Thursday Challenge—"warm"

Warm: the colors, the temperature,
and the recent gathering with
friends
and family here in the Virginia delta.

skywatch/reflections

After many hours of snow last Saturday,
we woke up to bright sunshine on
Sunday.  This what it looked like at the
end of the day, with
the setting sun
reflected in the East River.

Thursday Challenge—"sky"

Seen from the Brooklyn Bridge:
the beginning of a dramatic sunset
behind the buildings of lower Manhattan.

Skywatch Friday

I was walking over the Brooklyn Bridge a week ago,
and kept looking back at lower Manhattan as
the sky became more and more dramatic.
When I got to the other side, I had to rush to
the Brooklyn Promenade to capture this spectacular
sunset in time.  But it was worth the effort, I think.

Roatan sunset

This one is borrowed from my daughter Lila,
who took it when she and her sister,
Katie, were celebrating the New Year on
this island off the coast of Honduras.

ET sunset

On the one really sunny afternoon we had in Paris
last month, we made a beeline for the rooftop terrace
of the Galeries Lafayette to catch the sun
setting behind the Eiffel Tower and the Grand Palais.
I think it was well worth braving the
cold up there for this view!

One last sunset

This was the last great sunset I experienced while
crossing the Brooklyn Bridge on my way home before
Daylight Saving Time went into effect last weekend.
Unless I leave work an hour early, my weekday
commute
won't feature something like this until March of next year.

Skywatch Friday

When I'm crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and
am going down to the street on the Brooklyn side,
I try to remember to turn around and look back
first—just in case there's something like this going on!

Light Show

Snapped these on my way home one evening—
I just liked the way the petals caught the light.

Skywatch Friday

My fave NYC view—of lower Manhattan from the
Brooklyn Promenade—finally has a tower where the
two we still miss used to be.  It's not finished yet, but
it's right on schedule and it's already a big presence.
(When that spire is finished, it will
make this the tallest building
in the Western Hemisphere.)

Pacific Sunset

When I was in the Galapagos, every night
we were treated to a gasp-worthy sunset.
Each one different and each one glorious.

Skywatch Friday

Apparently, I'm not done pilfering photos from
my kids' recent trip to Antarctica.  But can you blame
me?  This spectacular sunset (not that it ever completely
sets there at this time of year) was shot by my daughter Lila.

Skyline Sunset

Yesterday a sunrise, today a sunset—
I'm back in Manhattan, where I can
enjoy this fabulous sight (if I go to
visit my friends who live on the 32nd
floor and have 360° views of the city).

Skywatch Friday

At first glance you might think that this
is all about the sun on the clouds at the top
of the photo.  But when I took this shot, I
was actually focusing on that small band of
light between the sea and the clouds.

Skywatch Friday

Maybe you know that I was down in
Virginia last week for some much-needed
r and r—that included enjoying a gorgeous
sunset (and a pomegranate martini)
from the deck every evening.

Skywatch Friday/Weekend Reflections

Have to borrow one more from my daughter
Kate's visit last December to Vietnam

(This setting sun is reflected in the Saigon River).
