Had a celebratory dinner recently at NoMad.
The ambience was hip, the food was
delicious, and the main room has a glass ceiling.
So, when someone told me that we missed running into 
Kanye, Kim, and North there by one day, was

This is the coconut birthday cake that

my sister-in-law (hey, I helped!) made for

my mom's 90th birthday. Here's the

recipe for anyone who wants to ingest

4,000 (absolutely worth it!) calories in one

small slice. This was taken after she blew

out the 9 (no, not 90) candles.

Buon Compleanno, Venezia

Here's another birthday (even more impressive

than my mom's 90th). Today La Serenissima

celebrates her 1,589th! I think she's looking as 

beautiful as ever, and I wish her many, many more.

abc wednesday - J is for "Jean"

A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated my mom's

90th birthday (that's her about 65 years ago, in

a photo taken by my father). Her brother, children,

daughter-in-law, and grandchildren all contributed

to the list and I made the book on my trusty Mac.

And, yes, we made her cry.

This "cheeky," bright-eyed little Mouseketeer 

is my daughter Lila, who has grown into a beautiful

young woman, if I do say so.  She's celebrating 

a big birthday tomorrow, so Happy B-day, Sweetie!

and she's still cute!

This is my mother, who turned 89 this
past week. We had a little birthday
dinner last night at her favorite
restaurant.  She's a real inspiration—
the woman still works (and the place
would fall apart w/o her)!
This shot was actually taken last
Thanksgiving, which explains the
pilgrim earrings.  (They belonged to
someone dear to us all, and now my
mother wears them every year, to
keep our friend with us in spirit.)
