Thursday Challenge—"unusual"
![]() |
Not something you see every day: This guy was painted silver and had a parakeet (on his head) and a kitten. I didn't hang around to see what his schtick was; I also didn't give him money to see if it would make him move. [To see more of the Thursday Photo Challenge, visit Dale's meme.] |

Which came first?
![]() |
Ever since some kids climbed up to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge one night and painted the American flag white, there's been a constant police presence up there. |
![]() |
So I wonder where they were when someone tiptoed out across a girder over the roadway (think Meg Ryan in Kate and Leopold) and tied those balloons to a cable at the edge. I also wonder whether all that caution tape was put at that spot before or after they were added. [To see more Monday Mellow Yellow posts, go here.] |

balloons on the bridge
![]() |
Who left this bouquet of balloons here? I haven't the foggiest notion, but they definitely cheered up my morning walk over the Brooklyn Bridge—and they were gone the next day (released, not popped, I hope). [Linking back to Ruby Tuesday and My World Tuesday.] |

Happy Tuesday
This was one of several photo shoots that I encountered while crossing the Brooklyn Bridge during Fashion Week (including this one). On this morning, there were two—and both of them featured balloons. [Linking back to Ruby Tuesday, Our World Tuesday and Wordless Wednesday (on Tuesday).] |

Orange You Glad It's Friday
![]() |
| I understand most of the random stuff I find when I'm crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, but I had no idea why these balloons were there at 8 a.m. on a recent Wednesday. But it was my daughter Lila's birthday, so I just told myself that they were there for her! Why not? [To see more OYGIF posts, visit Maria's meme.] |

Wordless Wednesday
[Well, not entirely wordless. It's the 1st of the month, so I've posted to my Paris blog. To see more Wordless Wednesday posts, go here and here.] |

Monday Mellow Yellows

| This scaffolding was obscuring a store that was having its grand opening, but they managed to use that scaffold to their best advantage. These balloons definitely got my attention! [To see more Monday Mellow Yellows, go here.] |

Balloon Boy 3
| Looks like someone is celebrating their 80th birthday! I love it when I see some random guy walking down the street (or riding the subway!) with a big bouquet of colorful balloons. This one seems to have a full complement of tattoos too. [I'm linking back to Olivier Perrin's Walk in the Street challenge. To see more, go here.] |

another balloon boy
Caught this one (and he caught me catching
him!) recently along Gramercy Park North, on one
of the first beautiful spring days we had
after more than our share of snow followed
by more than our share of rain. He did remind
me a bit of this guy.

Did he or didn't he?
Well, of course he didn't get on the bus!
But I would have liked to see him try—
and I have seen people on the subway
with huge bunches of balloons like this.
Not during rush hour, of course—
can you imagine? They'd all be popped
by irate commuters.
