My favorite time of day, and it was extra special on this early evening up on the Capitoline Hill. I'm leaving today—'til next time, Roma! [Linking back to Blue Monday.] |

Blue Monday
![]() |
Coming in to Longyearbyen (Spitsbergen) at the end of an incredible journey. This is about the point in the year when the sun begins to set and the residents of this northernmost Norwegian town enjoy the "blue hour" 24/7 until the sun disappears altogether, to reappear sometime in March. [To see more Blue Monday posts, visit Jeanne ay Backyard Neighbor.] |

I've borrowed this photo from my daughter Lila—the magical blue hour, with a full moon rising over the Bosphorus. [Linking back to Blue Monday at Backyard Neighbor.] |

Nice view

It's not my view, but I do get to enjoy it from time to time—as long as I'm willing to hang out this 10th-story window, that is. [Linking back to Weekend Reflections and to Skywatch Friday.] |

Santa Croce in Florence— you can't talk about this basilica without doing some serious name-dropping: Founded by St. Francis himself, it's the largest Franciscan church in the world; builders included di Cambio, Vasari, and Brunelleschi; frescoes by Giotto; tombs (or funerary monuments) for Dante, Galileo, Gentile, Ghiberti, Machiavelli, Michelangelo, Rossini, Marconi, and Fermi. See what I mean? [To see more churches from around the world, go here.] |

L'heure bleu
One night last week it was finally warm enough (i.e., just slightly above freezing) to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Though it was dark by the time I got to the other side, it was my favorite time of day—the blue hour—when I started across. [It's Blue Monday. To see more, visit Smiling Sally's meme.] |

Thursday Challenge—"blue"
The Manhattan Bridge, seen from the Brooklyn Bridge at my favorite time of day—what the French call l'heure bleu. [To see more of the Thursday Photo Challenge, go here.] |

Blue Monday
My favorite time of day—l'heure bleu. I enjoyed this blue hour while sailing around the Galapagos. (Still can't believe I'm able to say that!) [To see more shots that feature the color blue, visit Smiling Sally's meme.] |

New York at Night (16)
Yikes! I need to get out there and take some pictures. Meanwhile, here's one from the other evening from my office: my favorite NYC building, taken at my favorite time of day—l'heure bleu. |

Skywatch Friday
I walked home across the Brooklyn Bridge (as usual) and found the moon perfectly framed by the cables of the bridge (and in my favorite heure bleu). |
Took this close-up (if you can use that word when the subject of your photo is, on average, 238,857 miles away) the next night. [To see more Skywatch, go here.] |
