Thursday Challenge—"celebration" (#2)

To celebrate the holidays, every year La De Da,
a unique clothing (and more) store
in Roanoke, Va., features a handmade and
one-of-a-kind candy/couture creation
(and how about those garlands?).  Here's this
year's offering (and here's last year's).

And the whole thing is edible!

Thursday Challenge—"celebration"

I'll be wearing this fetching little chapeau
day after tomorrow at our otherwise
relatively quiet New Year's celebration.
Hope you're planning some fun for that evening.

The Weekend in Black and White

I did not take this picture, but the person
who did absolutely captured my
daughter Lila—whose birthday is tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Lila!

Happy 4th of July

Took my long lens up on the roof of my building

and got some shots of the Macy's fireworks
display.  Not too bad for several
miles away at night without a tripod
(and it was raining)!
That's the Trade Tower on the right.

(Long) Weekend Reflections

Bathing suit?  Check.  Sunscreen?  Check.
Cool shades?  Check!
Don't know how you Americans out there plan
to celebrate the long 4th of July weekend,
but I hope you get all the hot dogs,
hamburgers, beer, and fireworks you want.

Squad 18

The friendly firefighters on West 10th Street
in the West Village were feeling the
pride and sharing the love on Sunday, as
NYC's huge gay pride parade took
place a block away from their firehouse.

a rose is a rose is . . .

Right now, in the Cranford Rose Garden
(in the Brooklyn Botanic and one of the
largest collections in North America), there
are more than 1,000 kinds of roses
—both old and modern—in bloom. Some of the
original roses planted in 1927 are still there today!

ABC Wednesday—W is for "wisteria"

I'm pretty sure I'll never have any of my own, so
every year I try to make it to the botanic
garden when I think the wisteria is in bloom.

Happy Blogiversary

Eight years and counting!  I must be nuts,
but if some people I know, who shall
be nameless—or not, Eric Tenin (who was
my inspiration)—can do it for nearly 10 years
then I guess I can keep on keepin' on.
I'm grateful to my wonderful "blogpals"—it's mainly
thanks to all of you that this is still a lot of fun!

After the rain

I was fortunate to enjoy this peaceful
view last week—and the company of good
friends and family.  Much appreciated!

Thursday Challenge—"black"

I thought I was done showing you fashions from
this year's Costume Institute show at
The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  But here's one
more:  this beautiful c. 1938 black lace dress
with a die-cut, hand-assembled white-linen corsage
from—who else?—Coco Chanel.

the azaleas

Mother Nature's not afraid of
bright colors, is she?

my favorite part of the garden

. . . is the bluebell wood—at least for the short time
in May when the 40,000-plus bulbs bloom,
carpeting the ground with their bright blue flowers.

Sakura Matsuri*

*The Brooklyn Botanic Garden's annual
cherry blossom festival, that is—which
took place last Saturday.  Some people come
in costume to be in the proper party spirit.

And some get seriously into character.

it's midtown) New York City.
