Shadow Shot Sunday

I was pruning my office plants this week
and discovered that my desk lamp
creates some cool shadows.  Naturally, the
first thing I thought of was this meme.

The Weekend in Black and White

Like mother, like daughter.
But even when we're taking pictures
of the exact same thing,
Lila's

are almost always better than mine.

Macro Monday

It's a macro shot of one of my all-time
favorite Christmas presents . . .

a sparkly 3-foot addition to the ET collection
—and, yes, it does have twinkling lights!

What is it?

This stuff is amazing.
You could probably have a camel or
huge hunk of Limberger cheese in
your house, and if you put out a bunch
of these little gel odor eaters
you'd hardly notice (well, I guess the
camel would be obvious, but not for its "scent").

First pond-lily bud of the year

The camera with the long lens would have
shot this at the wrong angle altogether, so I
had
to
get this closeup shot with my phone
—and
almost fell into the pond in the process!

Thursday Challenge—"closeup"

To me these said, "Yes, spring really is here. We promise."

And here's that promise kept.

Thursday Challenge—"yellow"

I captured this tiny flower
with a close-up lens on my iPhone
(so hard to focus, but lots of fun).

Thursday Challenge—"simple"

"Simple" turned out to be not that . . . simple.
I thought about it for quite a while, then
looked around the house for inspiration and found
it in the kitchen: These eggs were in my favorite

bowl, coming to room temp before being hard-boiled.

Gunpowder River

I rode the train from Virginia back to
NYC earlier this week.  All I remembered
about this shot was that I took it
somewhere between DC and Baltimore.
But iPhoto very kindly informs me that this is
the Gunpowder River, an inlet of Chesapeake Bay.

a little red beetle

Unlike yesterday's antsy (so to speak) insect,
this little beetle was willing to pose
for me, without budging, for a looong time.

You lookin' at me?

My friends and I were relaxing on their deck
and were joined by a baby praying mantis.  I popped
a closeup lens on my phone, but when I tried
to take the picture the mantis jumped onto the phone!
(This picture was taken with my regular camera.)

Eventually, I coaxed it into letting me
snap this shot with the closeup lens.
(Working with insects takes patience!)

Feed me, Seymour!

I know this looks a bit like Audrey 2 from
Little Shop of Horrors, but in fact it's

a teeny tiny geranium bud that I snapped
with my iPhone (and fun macro lens).

Thursday Challenge—"creative photos (2)"

It's actually not that easy to take a picture
of your own eye, especially with a
macro lens (no depth of field whatsoever).
I can't quite decide if the photo is creepy or cool
(but I'm currently leaning toward cool).
What do you think?

One thin . . .

Sometimes I just like to play
with my iPhone lenses.  The fisheye
is fun, but this one's my fave.

deconstructed bouquet

Found a bouquet in the kitchen at work
on Friday, abandoned by its owner
before the long weekend.  So I grabbed
my phone and my fun phone lenses—for the
only sure way to make those flowers last!

Today's Flowers

Went to the botanic garden recently to have
some fun with my iPhone macro lens.  SO hard to
focus (no depth of field whatsoever), but I
did kind of like this shot—and especially the
color of these pretty little flowers.

A dazzling dahlia

On a recent day off from work, I was at my
"backyard" botanic garden at 8 a.m.—and had the place
almost entirely to myself (which was my plan).
Took my time playing around with the hard-to-focus
(but lots of fun) macro lens that fits on my iPhone.
This dahlia was so ready for its close-up!

Mellow Yellow/Macro Monday

Hadn't been in the garden in a while, but
went yesterday with my new(ish)
iPhone macro lens. It's not that easy to
focus (no depth of field whatsoever), but
worth the effort when it works, I think. And
I do love my toys!  :~}

Summer Toes

Summer's not over quite yet, but this past week
you could feel a little hint of autumn in the air.
Meanwhile, all the pretty pedicured piggies
are still on display (well, almost all—
who knows what's under that blue sneaker).
