ABC Wednesday—E is for "Eiffel Tower"

Per Blogger, this is my 31st post that
features the ET.   That sounds
like a lot until you factor in that this is
pretty much my fave thing in
my fave place.  And considering that there

are entire blogs devoted solely to the
Eiffel Tower, 31 posts out of more than 3,000
actually seems like a pretty small number.
(So does that mean it's time to go
back and take more pictures?)

The Weekend in Black and White

I think it's beautiful in color, or all
lit up after dark—or like
this, in good, old-fashioned
black and white.

Thursday Challenge—"bright" (#2)

It gets me every time!
{And a very Happy Thanksgiving to
all my American friends.}

Macro Monday

It's a macro shot of one of my all-time
favorite Christmas presents . . .

a sparkly 3-foot addition to the ET collection
—and, yes, it does have twinkling lights!

Weekend Reflections

I've been going up on the Eiffel Tower
for 50 (!) years now, but until my
last visit had never climbed the steps
from the first to the second level—I counted
420 of them, which wouldn't have been bad at all
if it hadn't been 99°F (37°C) at the time.
It was well worth it, however, for
this reflection and for the view:

And since it's my photo and my blog, I've taken
the liberty of removing the hideous Tour Montparnasse
from this otherwise beautiful vista.  So there.

The Weekend in Black and White

The ET, seen from the Cité de l'Architecture
et du Patrimoine—a wonderful
museum, and not only because it's never
crowded and has a view of the
tower from almost every window.

Thursday Challenge—"favorite"

The perfect prompt for where I am now.
Actually, I'm having lunch up there today—
it's one of my favorite things to do at my
favorite monument in my favorite city.

Joyeux Quatorze Juillet!

Happy Bastille Day from the place you

want to be on the 14th of July!
Since I'm posting ahead, no shots of parades

up the Champs Elysées or fireworks from
the Eiffel Tower—but if I'm lucky, maybe later.

Thursday Challenge—"sunshine"

Most of my experiments with shooting directly
at the sun are more "miss" than "hit."
I do like this one though (but maybe it's just
because of the other thing in the photo).

a glitzy ET

I thought about plunking down 15 euros and
adding this sparkly pink Eiffel Tower to
my collection.  In the end I was able to resist
its (probably made in China) charms.

Thursday Challenge—"electricity"

Can't tell you how many electric lights there
are on the carousel near the base of
the Eiffel Tower—but I can tell you that
there are exactly 20,000 individual bulbs on
the tower itself.   That's a lot of wattage!

Les Ombres de Dimanche

Not entirely sure what they were selling
in this shop in St. Germain, but I
love their window display featuring my
favorite iconic symbol of the city.
Here's the whole display. Maybe
a men's clothing boutique?

Thursday Challenge—architecture

I live in NYC, where there is so much amazing
architecture.  But I was also recently in Paris,
where I snapped this shot of M. Eiffel's masterpiece

(and my all-time fave piece of architecture).

ET sunset

On the one really sunny afternoon we had in Paris
last month, we made a beeline for the rooftop terrace
of the Galeries Lafayette to catch the sun
setting behind the Eiffel Tower and the Grand Palais.
I think it was well worth braving the
cold up there for this view!

The Weekend in Black and White

Et voilà!  I'll give you two guesses where
I landed today (and the 2nd one doesn't count).

I'll get to spend some quality time with

Virginia, of Paris Through My Lens, and Genie,
whose blog is Paris and Beyondtwo 'Bama gals
who are here now too. They both blog beautifully
about the city all three of us adore and take
me there through their posts every day.  I'm
so excited that we're all here at the same time!

Tina's Picstory—"roofs"

My favorite view of my favorite
rooftops—partly because the ET has no

competition from any modern "skyscrapers."
But to get this exact view, you have to visit the
Centre Pompidou (not my fave Paris museum).

ABC Wednesday—D is for "Duty-Free"

This overpriced (duty-free or not) little item
would make an interesting addition to my
Eiffel Tower collection.  So did I buy it?
I did not—fortunately, someone already
gave me one of these.  I never shop the
Duty Free; I hang on to my leftover euros
and just assume I'll be back.  So far, so good.

Here's Waldo—or actually, here's
the Eiffel Tower.  See it?

Traveling Tuesdays

See the Eiffel Tower way back there? This creature
had already been staring out over the rooftops
of Paris from Notre Dame's south tower for more

than six centuries before it was ever built—and
he's been there for more than another century since!

Photo Hunt—"waiting"

Took this shot of the line (one of them!) to come
up on the Eiffel Tower.  And did I have to wait
on this line to get up there?  Mais non!  The way
to legally jump the line is to make a reservation at one
of the restaurants up there.  I chose the less
expensive one on the first level—and still had a terrific
view overlooking the Trocadéro while I enjoyed a tasty lunch.
