ABC Wednesday—G is for "The Three Graces"

This is the window of a pretty good
thrift store in Chelsea.  I love the reference
to Canova's sculpture of the daughters
of Zeus—and paintings by Botticelli, Raphael,
and Rubens— with the addition of
sling-back sandals and black suede pumps.

Tina's Picstory—"interesting"

Well, I thought this was interesting enough
to pull out my camera and snap a picture.
But hardly anyone else in the vicinity
was giving this guy and his well-balanced
friend a second glance.  That's NYC for you.

abc wednesday — B is for "butcher"

I'm still a meat-eater, but I realized as I watched these
cute butchers (at
Eataly) do their thing:  If I stood here
long enough, it very well might turn me into a vegetarian.
If that should happen, I can still find a couple of
things here that fit the category. (BTW, I bought
some of these breadsticks: in a word—delizioso!)

That's My World

Went to check out NYC's faaabulous
new food emporium, Eataly.
The joint was jumpin' so I decided to skip
the
restaurants and get a carb fest to go.

Couldn't resist some of this wonderful Italian
butter to slather on that fresh-from-the-oven
baguette. The cashier told me I was only
missing one thing: chocolate!

Shadow Shot Sunday

Brunch at Cheryl's Global Soul, the
hippest restaurant in my neighborhood.
(I just checked out that link to discover
Cheryl was featured on the Food Network
with Sara Moulton who—what a coincidence—
bought the loft my ex-husband and I built
from scratch in Chelsea.)  Is that one degree
of separation or two?

New York at Night (6)

This is one of Apple's three stores in
Manhattan—the one downtown in Chelsea.
 Wonder how many iPads
they've sold since Apple came out
with their latest toy last weekend?
To find out, see here.
Can't afford it myself, but then again,
I don't have an iPhone or even a
Blackberry (and don't feel lost without
either—go figure).

Shadow Shot Sunday

Watched this tough-looking bulldog
cross Broadway at 23rd Street—and as the
 dog's owner stopped near me,
I heard him say, "Come on, Buttercup,
there's a good dog."
Excuse me—Buttercup??

Mellow Yellow Monday

Cupcakes are VERY big here in NYC.
Found these in the Chelsea Market at
Ruthie's Bakery.  The minute I left Chelsea and
moved to Brooklyn, all the cool stores moved in.
It's almost like they said, "Okay, she's
gone.  Now—let's gentrify!"

stack 'em high

I get it: the stacks descend into the ground
so all the cars are accessible. But doesn't
that look like concrete under the stack in
the foreground? Guess that's not possible,
but . . . oh, whatever. You know, I'm actually
glad I don't have a car!

Where Am I?

To me, this looks more like some watering
hole in Texas or Arkansas than smack in
the middle of Manhattan. In fact, it's the
Hog Pit, where the ribs are juicy and the
collard greens are sweet. If you didn't
know it, New Yorkers love their BBQ!

Shadow Shot Sunday

This is the General Theological Seminary,
which takes up a whole block in Chelsea.
Clement Clarke Moore, author of the classic
'Twas the Night Before Christmas,' taught
here in the 1800s.
The buildings are built around a wonderful
green oasis in the center. We lived in this
neighborhood when the kids were little
and brought them here to play often.

who lives here?

Based on the laundry drying on the fire escape,
if these garments are his everyday attire I'm
guessing this is not the home of a major
league ballplayer, Anglican bishop, or former
U.S. attorney general.  On the other hand, this
could be a strictly "after hours" wardrobe—in
which case, all bets are off (and what I wouldn't
give to see Ashcroft in these duds!).
