This gaggle of geese was rather "large and in charge" in the city garden in Bordeaux. Locals were just walking through the flock, but I opted to give them a very wide berth. (Once you've been bitten by a goose, you tend to be wary. Just saying'.) [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—G is for "giraffe"

And speaking of giraffes, this tower (yes, a group of giraffes is called a tower!) lives peacefully at the Bronx Zoo. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—G is for "giraffe"
At the gift shop in the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, is this "burning giraffe" model based on ones in some of his paintings (and his film L'Age d'Or). They also have small stuffed versions that you can buy for all the surreal children in your life. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—G is for "gravestones"
These are in Père Lachaise cemetery, one of the most beautiful, peaceful spots in Paris. Though it makes for a good photo op, it also saddens me to see how some of the graves have fallen into a sorry state. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—G is for "The Three Graces"

This is the window of a pretty good thrift store in Chelsea. I love the reference to Canova's sculpture of the daughters of Zeus—and paintings by Botticelli, Raphael, and Rubens— with the addition of sling-back sandals and black suede pumps. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—G is for "greenmarket"
![]() |
Right now is the best time of year at the greenmarket. I find myself wanting to buy things I don't even like so much—just because they're there, and they look so good. Case in point: Check out these big, juicy blackberries! [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—G is for "Galapagos"
These well-tended—by which I mean aggressively left in peace, if that's not too much of an oxymoron— volcanic islands have to be the most incredible place I've ever had the privilege to visit. (I'm pretty sure I'll be back for the letters H and I.) What you see here in the foreground is an ancient volcano that's now under water. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

ABC Wednesday—G is for "gooseberries"
I saw these for sale at the Saturday greenmarket in Tribeca. Not even sure why I know what they are, because I've never tasted one. Have you? [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |
