Thursday Challenge—"park"

Farsighted people took this
abandoned elevated railway . . .

. . . planted native grasses, trees, and
wildflowers among the railroad ties . . .

. . . and created the High Line, one of my fave NYC
parks. There were lots of people who argued
against this project. I wonder what they think now
when they see what a huge success it is, and how it
has revitalized a big section of the far West Side.

Shadow Shot Sunday

It's been hot here this past week, with the
temp hovering near 100°F (38°C) some days.
I was so tempted to join this kid!

who lives here?

Based on the laundry drying on the fire escape,
if these garments are his everyday attire I'm
guessing this is not the home of a major
league ballplayer, Anglican bishop, or former
U.S. attorney general.  On the other hand, this
could be a strictly "after hours" wardrobe—in
which case, all bets are off (and what I wouldn't
give to see Ashcroft in these duds!).

Marilyns

I haven't yet found out who's responsible for
these would-be Monroes: Madonna, Angelina,
even Mr. Spock. These are in the far West Village,
once a cool neighborhood but now becoming
über-hip. Haven't seen them anywhere else,
but I do like them.

The High Line

Check out New York's newest green space.
For once, instead of tearing something
down and building yet more unaffordable
condos and coops, this great old elevated
railway has been saved and turned into a
wonderful planted walkway. Love it!

Downtown Sunset

It rained cats and dogs all day.  Then it all
cleared up long enough for a fireball
sunset, then started pouring again.
Lesson:  You have to be in the right place
at the right time—with a camera.
