photo Hunter — "average"

So is this the average cost of a 3-tiered cake?
Some 20 years ago, I had such a cake custom
made for a party I had for my parents'
50th anniversary—mine was both tasteful and
tasty, and it cost exactly a tenth of this ugly
concoction.  $650?  Seriously??
That's 470 euros . . . 737 Australian dollars . . .
58,551 Japanese yen . . . 64,703 Albanian
leke . . . or 12,002,250 Vietnam dong!!
I don't think so.

  1. There's an absolutely delightful Australian movie called The Castle {if you ever find it there, Alexa, I guarantee it will make you laugh and cry}, and I'm reminded of a line oft-used by one of the characters. "Tell 'em they're dreaming."

  2. Wooow. I could buy a lot of good chocolate (and not necessarily Godiva) for that money. Another example of wedding exploitation. This one isn't even that pretty, in my opinion, and I'm willing to bet, like the proverbial fox, that it doesn't taste that good either.

  3. Wow, that's expensive! I think I'd just pass out Snickers bars...

    Nice photo though!

  4. Actually, what's worse is that I realize now that this isn't even a wedding cake. It's for a Quinceañera—a celebration of a girl's 15th birthday (traditional with some Hispanic people). Definitely over the top for a 15 year old.

  5. $650 for a birthday cake? Wow. Not at my house. LOL.

  6. I hope the average parent isn't stupid enough to pay that for the cake. I really enjoyed your very above average take on this difficult theme.

  7. A Quinceañera is basically a coming of age ceremony held on a girl's fifteenth birthday. The ceremony is to announce a girl giving up her childhood and becoming a woman.

I love cake but the design on the cake is not even pretty. If you think the cost of the cake is outrageous. You should see the cost of the dress for this kind of event it's ridiculous.

I have been to a few of these events and the Quinceanera party is more or less like a wedding celebration. Over the top. lol
