NoHo
I hear there may be a problem with this building,
because some new golden "dancers" by sculptor
Bruce Williams were added recently—but since the
original ones were installed the building has been
given landmark status, which means you can't
change the facade in any way. Hope they don't
remove them. My own fire escape is pretty
boring in comparison—not so much as a dead
plant. This building is also where photographer
Robert Mapplethorpe had his studio.
Sorry to ask but is it the front or back door from the theatre ? It doesn't look like a theatre, French style !! So New York !!
ReplyDeleteI love the dancers, would be a shame to remove them !!
So you have your own fire escape!! Do you use it as a balcony ?
Nice weekend to all of you !!
Very cool, Alexa. It's funny how laws set in place to protect things can sometimes shoot themselves in the foot ~ I hope they take a gold leaf from the book of these dancers and exercise some flexibility with the rules.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, all!
They look at home and so should be allowed to remain! How are they "attached" to the railing, etc?
ReplyDeletemarylene -- this is what we call off-off-off Broadway, and this IS the front. I do have a fire escape, but much smaller and MUCH less interesting. Do sit out there sometimes and pretend it's my terrace.
ReplyDeleteShell -- I think they'll let them stay—and let them continue to paint the façade of the theater (also verboten but fun).
Cali -- I have NO idea, but that's a good question. You wouldn't want those things falling.
This is definitely my kind of building (and you know I love fire escapes.) Great place to live.
ReplyDelete(Hmmm...does Blogger know I gained a teeny bit of weight in the US? I have to type in 'bra tight' as word verification!)
A HAH, I found YOU!!!! I love your blog, it is as if we're gabbing on the phone like the good old days with Country Living GARDENER. Your voice is the one I most miss, even when you were correcting me!
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you for the Italy information. It is beyond anything that I expected. It is so you, so tres fabu.
I will think of you as we walk Cinque Terre, stuff the pesto into our happy mouths, and explore Venice. And why wouldn't you be "caught dead" in a gondola??
Love, love,-Sharon
The dancers are wonderful. I hope they get to stay!
ReplyDeleteBibi -- I know you do and I thought of you.
ReplyDeleteSharon -- you are VERY welcome, and yours was my fave stuff to correct! Gondolas are too touristy and too expensive! Ride the traghetto across the Grand Canal instead—only 50 euros (cents, that is, and you get to feel like a local).
BTW, check out my posts between 9/26 and 10/31/08 to see shots of my last trip to Italy, if you want.
kenju -- I agree!
