get the party started!

Imagine my surprise when I was awakened at
around 3 a.m. Monday morning to what sounded
like dozens of steel drums—and that's just what
it was. Got up, got dressed, grabbed my camera,
and went to investigate what turned out to be
J'Ouvert (jour ouvert = daybreak), the
prelude to yesterday's annual Labor Day West
Indian Parade, which takes place one block from
my house.  Since this is an election year, every
politician in the 5 boroughs was on hand (but
sans costume, so much too dull to be shown here).

  1. Wow, those are wild costumes - what little there is of them! There's some bloodhound in you, Alexa, if you're happy to get out of bed at 3am to check out something that sounds intriguing. Is that what comes of sleeping in a daybed? :)

  2. If you were a guy, it would have been all the more motivating to get out of bed at 3 a.m. Yikes, the costumes.

  3. Costumes? What costumes? ;-)

    What a wake up call! Most mornings the sound of the alarm is alarming enough.

  5. Shell -- Happy? Did I say I was happy to go exploring at 3 am? Just had to do it (so I could take a picture for you). :~}
    Cali -- If I had an alarm that sounds like 50 or 60 steel drums, I'd never oversleep! Hmmmm.

  6. You got up out of your nice comfy bed at that wee hour to take photos for your blog! ? !
    You are so dedicated! & that is a great shot. There is something about your dedication combined with the drummers that really shines through in that photo. NIce job Alexa.
