Mellow Yellow Monday

If you lived here on the island of Burano,
you could no doubt find your way home to
this house even in the dead of night—
it looks like it must glow in the dark!
(BTW, I looked all over Burano for the
store that sells these over-the-top
paint colors but never did find it—surely
it's there somewhere.)

[You can see more Mellow Yellow here.]

  1. Looks like all the colors in the crayon box get used on those houses!

  3. I did not know where Burano was, so I googled it to find it in Italy. And apparently much of the island has houses in brillant primary colours! The images on google are resplendent. Oooo ... I would so love to visit that island. I will now go to google maps and check it out more fully. Thank you sooo much for the heads up.

  4. Oh! Oh! Oh! What a happy scene! Does this mean painters on Burano are members of a secret society? Intriguing.

  5. Far from mellow. I’m so glad you photographed that while it was in the shade. If those colors appeared on my monitor seen in the full force of direct sunlight I might be viewing a more pressing mellow yellow.

  6. Wondering what is behind that red door, I keep seeing something like this. A Rolling Stones influence?

  7. I just love bright colors for houses in settings like this. I would not hesitate to paint mine a lime green!

  8. Alexa, I love Burano and although I did not buy any lacework there, I did buy a small watercolor from an artist. My sister took our picture as I gave him a small glass gift from USA. I would have loved to spent a week there.

  10. Genie led me to Burano lace in 1935.

Is something like this what Carolyn Ford was thinking?

TG -- loved the first (old) Burano film—and yes, I saw my bright yellow house in the second! Grazie!

  12. Vibrant colours, indeed!! Burano is surely a beautiful town! Although I don't think I have the courage to do the same to my house ;p

  13. Found this at Wiki: “The colours of the houses follow a specific system originating from the golden age of its development; if someone wishes to paint their home, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot.”

Perhaps the paint, as well as the painting, must also come through the “government.” Thus, no paint store.

  14. If you mean water colours, my sister in law bought a set, in these vibrant colours, in the bookshop if the Correr Museum. Good enough to eat.
