abc wednesday - U is for "under water"

In all the years I've been going to Venice, my recent visit was the first time
I've encountered aqua alta.  The sirens sounded, the passarelle (those
not-quite-wide-enough walkways) were up, Piazza San Marco was
inundated every day, and the poor pups were totally flummoxed.

[You can see more "U" posts here.]

  1. Gosh, this would be hard to live with, even occasionally. Serbia is having lots of flooding now, but nothing here in town.

  2. I always wondered if this ever happened in Venice but was too lazy to investigate.
I hope it didn't impede your trip Alexa.

  5. I am amazed that Venice has managed to exist after so many centuries of continual flooding. Cool photos.

  6. We encountered aqua alta on our trip earlier this year! I didn't see any of those walkways, but Piazza San Marco was flooded for the last two nights of our stay. Pity, because we were really looking forward to finishing our trip with one of those glorious hot chocolates, listening to beautiful music. Instead, we stood with a crowd of people who couldn't get back to their hotel, and marvelled at the reflections in the water!

On behalf of the team, thanks for taking part in ABC Wednesday this week! :)

  7. Amazing. Under water isn't always a good thing. The photos are wonderful, however! :)

  11. That was very interesting underwater!!

Must say we get waterlogged for days, in our region too, during the monsoons. My "U" this time is also underwater but of a different kind!!

    Have a great day!!

  12. Alexa, Thanks for the beautiful photos. Did you find and buy the policewoman's high boots you mentioned on Pierre's blog? I saw acqua alta in October several days and was trapped in my flat for a few hours one morning.
