The first time ever . . .

. . . I heard Roberta Flack sing the song she's
about to sing (especially for me, it would seem),
I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd
ever heard.  She sang it tonight at a memorial/tribute
concert for Joel Dorn, the guy who produced her records.
(There will probably be more—it was quite a lineup.)

  1. I love Roberta Flack and that genre of music. Lately, I've been listening to Gladys Knight and Al Green.

  2. Remember when she teamed with Donny Hathaway? Where is the Love is still one of my favorite songs. Their voices blended so beautifully.

  3. Yup, I agree that's all wonderful stuff—was then, still is.

  4. Nice! Wish I could have been there to hear this beautiful woman. Next you'll tell us that you were also in Central Park back around 1980 or so when Simon and Garfunkel gave that amazing concert in the park. Now that's one I wish I would have seen.... Ah, life in the BIG APPLE!

  5. Coltrane -- sorry, I definitely missed that one (had a toddler and a nursing infant at the time—a life situation you can probably understand).
But this tribute also included Mose Allison (!), Hugh Masakela, Janice Segal, Dr, John, Les McCann on piano, legendary session guitarist Cornell Dupree, and the list goes on. You would have loved it.
