Singing "Poetry Man"

At just one of the summer's many free concerts,
this one in Madison Square Park, with the
Flatiron Building for a backdrop. Phoebe
hasn't lost that powerful voice!

  1. You are so fortunate to be engulfed by such amazing artists. Beautiful all the way around. I've got one day off as I've placed all my Japanese in their homestay families for the next three days. Next week it's baseball, a zoo, a park picnic, a farm, etc and a farewell dinner...then I'll drop. :-) Thanks for the thoughts this week. Hope you're having a great one yourself!

  2. I love that song! I have her self titled album on vinyl, if I may boast. But lucky you!

  3. Ganbatte Korutorenu-san. Hang in there, man. Just realized that your "real" name fits quite well in the Japanese syllabary: Mr. Hakinzu.刃金手さん。What "ateji"! Talk about samurai: (Sword; metal; hand).

The last time I watched "Casablanca" I got to wondering, "If Claude Rains does Phoebe Snow?"

Like uselaine, I, too, love that song and just wanted to listen to it again.

  4. Hey...you have done it...
You have been running for two months and I didn't know about your blog...
    I am embarrassed...
Well I think your photos are great and reflect your wonderfully interesting personality.

  5. Well, who doesn't love that song? She told the story behind it and claimed she'd never spoken of it before, but I don't know if I believe that.

tall gary -- for that matter, does Gale Storm?

uselaine -- I am impressed that you have that album. You must be older than you look.

rose -- I'm embarrassed, because I said I'd tell you if I ever did this—and I did and didn't. Glad you found it & glad you like it. My kids said "You should go on Facebook, Ma." But I figured they meant, "Wouldn't it be funny if you were the oldest person ever on Facebook?" But, hey, since you say it . . . maybe the baby boomers should just take it over. Look out, twenty-somethings—here we come again!

  6. Alexa: I am no spring chicken and I am on facebook, mainly to hang out with PDPers after "class."

  7. Is the story behind the song worth repeating?

  8. She said she wrote it shortly after the end of an affair she had with a man who was 30 years her senior -- and a friend of her father. Hmmmm.

  9. Thanks, Alexa. A thirty-year age difference is a relationship handicap it might be difficult to overcome. "What do you mean you don't like this cute bunny rabbit plush toy? You said you liked hip hop."
