across 125th Street

So you'll stop to say hey to Bill, head a few blocks south
to get some fried chicken and mac and cheese at Melba's
(Bill would like to join you, but Hillary won't let him),
then back to 125th to catch the show at the Apollo.
(Not the clearest shot, I know, but -- hey -- taken
through the dirty window of a moving train.)

  1. Alexa, is that Madison Avenue I see peaking through on the right? So Bill stops for chicken and a Macncheese, eh? To my chagrin, we're a Mac-n-Cheese family (I admit it)...even the dog loves mac-n-cheese [of course he still likes to spell his name backwards too]. So I eat it occasionally (or give mine to the dog) because I am outnumbered by two kids under four and a dog with a "god" complex. What's a guy to do? I'm sure I'll see plenty of macncheese and its colorful varieties in coming days as picnic fare for the 4th of July. :-)

  2. Well, I guess we all know what's good (the dog-god included). I rarely allow myself the pleasure anymore, either, but I do make a killer (literally, probably) mac & cheese myself. My kids are now in their late twenties and they STILL crave it.
I've never eaten at Melba's, but if you find yourself in NYC, take the kids to Chat 'n' Chew, on 16th Street. Their m&c is to die for! (again, probably literally)

  3. The famous Apollo! One of those places I'd like to see one of these days. For now, this will do . . .
