ABC Wednesday—B is for "books"

Somewhere in Paris, someone filled a
shop window with stacks and
stacks of books.  Good luck finding any
particular tome you're looking for,
but obviously that's not the point here—and
it does make kind of a nifty display.

Thursday Challenge—"paper"

There's not a single room in my house that
doesn't have books in it.  And as a
"design element," I think they add warmth
and a true personal touch to my home.
What I don't get is books facing backwards on
a shelf or covered so you can't tell
what the heck they are.  They are there to
be read, aren't they?
(I do get that this is different. They really are
here just for design value—but even so.)

Thursday Challenge—"books"

Upstairs at Shakespeare and Co., in Paris,
where you can choose a book and
curl up in a comfy chair.  I've read many,
many books in this special place.

Thursday Challenge — "books"

Look but don't touch. Actually, most of the books
in Venice's Biblioteca Marciana are kept away from
even the gaze of the folks (like me) who just wander into
its main room after visiting the Museo Correr.  In addition
to about a million printed books, the collection includes
thousands of incunabula and manuscripts, some illuminated.

Thursday Challenge — "learning"

This is (part of) my bookcase.  Started learning French
when I was in high school, started learning Italian when
I lived in Paris.  And in Spain, many years ago, I lived in a small
fishing village with other hippy types (mostly from the U.S.,
Britain, and the Netherlands)—I still remember being SO proud
when I went to the butcher shop, asked for "hamburguesa
por me y sobras por los perros"—and actually got what I wanted.
Recently began learning the language for real (espero).

Thursday Challenge–"home"

I thought a bit about this one, and ultimately realized that
the first thing I look at in anyone's home is their books—
so here's a small but select section of mine.

But these are the runners-up: Buddy snacking on the
pansies in the window and a couple of my fave
things
(because this lamp and mirror are both just a bit over the top).

Dusty?

The category for today's Photo Hunt is "dusty."
I'm not saying these books are—but just
going by how often I have to deal with my own
bookshelves, I'd have to say the potential is there.
I could farfouille (rummage about) in here
for hours—how about you?

power to the (little) people

Okay, I have shopped at Barnes & Noble, but
I also try to frequent the small independent
bookstores in my neighborhood and around
the city—because I sure would hate to see
them disappear—wouldn't that be a shame?
