This is the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, and those are the Blue Ridge Mountains (which usually do look blue—except when the leaves are turning). Unfortunately, it's a windy place, and the little prop plane I was in was knocked all around and up and down by the cross currents. Never been so happy to land! So that’s what this is all about.
ReplyDeleteChecking Wikipedia it appears that there is no clear, indisputable connection between the song and your valley down there. That being the case I had best change media.
So that is where this arose.
I went up in a light aircraft years ago and had to stop myself from kissing the tarmac when we landed. And it wasn't even exceptionally windy!! But your trip made for a wonderful view, Alexa.
ReplyDeleteFlying in a small plane is so much like, well, flying, isn't it?

Beautiful scene! I also recall flying in small aircraft; updraft over the mountains and the jerking of the aircraft had me holding "The Bag".

Blue Ridge Mountains,
Shenandoah River
Life is old there,
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains,
growin like a breeze.
