It's a double reflection, really—the sun reflecting off the water and the reflection of the family in the wet sand. [To see more Weekend Reflections, visit James's meme.] |

ABC Wednesday—F is for "footprints"

And I love leaving mine on a sunny beach. (These were made last year at sunrise on the beautiful beach of Oak Island, North Carolina.) [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

North meets South
![]() |
Here's what happens when you carry real
New York bagels to your relatives
south of the Mason-Dixon line—you get to
enjoy them with something besides a schmear:
pimiento cheese and tomatoes.
For me, this is a cross-cultural idea that works!

Thursday Challenge—"warm"
![]() |
As we move from "sweater" to "jacket" to "pouffy down coat" weather, I'm thinking about "barefoot"—from a mere two months ago. [To see more of the Thursday Photo Challenge, go here. Also linking back to Weekend Reflections.] |

seabirds, reflected
To me, it almost looks like these birds are trapped in a field of ice. Not to worry, though— I took this photo in late August. [Linking back to ABC Wednesday (R) and to Weekend Reflections.] |

the color of daybreak
When I was in North Carolina last month, the first sunrise I got up for was so spectacular that I roused myself before dawn and hiked +/- a mile to the beach a couple more times. This was the start of my reward on one of those mornings. [Linking back to the Thursday Photo Challenge (orange), Skywatch Friday, and Orange You Glad It's Friday?.] |

The Weekend in Black and White
![]() |
Low tide under the Oceancrest Pier, on Oak Island, NC. The water was very warm, yet I encountered few people—and, fortunately, no sharks (they've been a problem in the near-shore waters off the Carolinas this past summer). [To see more b/w shots, visit Dragonstar's meme.] |

sunrise
Though I was here for a few days only, I can't imagine this ever getting old—even if you do have to get up before dawn to enjoy the full experience. [Linking back to Thursday Photo Challenge ("sun"), Skywatch Friday, Weekend Reflections, and Orange You Glad It's Friday?.] |

The Weekend in Black and White

One more post from the beach: and it was absolutely worth getting up at the crack of dawn to have this all to myself. [To see more b/w shots, visit Dragonstar's meme.] |

Weekend Reflections
![]() |
Finally made it to the beach for the first time all summer, and even though I live very near some of the best beaches in the Northeast, I wound up traveling all the way to North Carolina to walk barefoot in the sand. Whatever—it was heaven! [To see more Weekend Reflections, visit James's meme.] |

painted lady
I spotted this one last week, while I was riding around the little town of Southport, N.C. Right behind it is the Cape Fear River. Like this one, a lot of the houses in this town have a plaque near the front door that give the home's original owner and a bit of history. Most date to the Civil War era or before. Skywatch Friday
Sunset at Emerald Isle, a beautiful
beach that I've shown you once before.
I'd like a real repeat visit, but next
time not during hurricane season.
