Thursday Challenge—"best of 2016"

Not easy to pick the best picture from
among hundreds (thousands?)
taken over the course of the year—and
in lots of (very) different places,
from my Brooklyn neighborhood to not
 that far from the North Pole.
If I have to choose one, it has to be this photo
taken as the sun was rising (and so was
the mist) over the Garonne River
in Bordeaux this past September.  More luck
than skill, but I do love this image.

the color of daybreak

When I was in North Carolina last month,
the first sunrise I got up for was so
spectacular that I roused myself before dawn
and hiked +/- a mile to the beach
 a couple more times.  This was the start of 
my reward on one of those mornings.

Though I was here for a few days only,
 I can't imagine this ever getting old—even
if you do have to get up before dawn
to enjoy the full experience.

Good Morning

When I fly within the U.S., I like to be 
on the first flight in the morning.  That way, 
obviously, I'm not waiting for the plane 
to get there (late) from someplace 
else—and as a bonus I'm often treated to 
a beautiful sunrise like this one.

I'd like to thank Dale at the Thursday Photo

I have lots of "favorite" photos, but this one
of a foggy Brooklyn Bridge sunrise
from last January probably tops the list.

Brooklyn Sunrise

I asked my daughter Katie if I could
use this one.  She told me she woke up at
5 a.m. the other morning and wasn't
too happy about it, until she saw this
spectacular sunrise over the Brooklyn rooftops—
which only the early risers got to enjoy.

Another gorgeous morning in Virginia.
The show didn't last long—I had to run out in my
jammies to get this shot.  Fortunately, the nearest
neighbors are some very nonjudgmental horses.

This photo represents one of my favorite things
(captured about a week ago):  being in a plane at
sunrise and watching the sun come up
over the wing at 38,000 feet.

Here Comes the Sun

Last Friday, I shared the sunset from this
stark yet beautiful place. I think the sunrise
deserves equal billing, don't you?
 Later, we trekked—like mad dogs and Englishmen—
all the way up to the very top of this hill 
(and the climb was so worth it for the view, 
which you can see in my banner shot).

Morning Has Broken

I'm getting on a plane early this morning
and heading south.  I have a window seat
on the port side and I'm hoping for a
clean window and a good sunrise.

The dawn of a new day (in this case a foggy one in Ipswich, 
Mass., where I visited friends recently).  Speaking of which, 
(dawn, that is) I'm off now to set the DVR for 4 AM.
