Weekend Reflections

I rescued this geranium from being tossed
when we moved to new offices.  It's
been around a long time and is a bit the worse
for the steam heat in my apartment—but
it continues to bless me with blooms
on a regular basis.

up in Montmartre

This balcony overlooks the straight uphill/downhill
rue du Mont Cenis.  It is slightly off the beaten
tourist path, but that's not saying too much in Montmartre.
I appreciate that the owners have given me something
special to shoot—and still found a beautiful
way to preserve their privacy.

along the boulevard

The trees cast dappled shadows across
the façade of this elegant building
on boulevard Saint-Germain.

Feed me, Seymour!

I know this looks a bit like Audrey 2 from
Little Shop of Horrors, but in fact it's

a teeny tiny geranium bud that I snapped
with my iPhone (and fun macro lens).

Chez qui?

When I'm [lucky enough to be] walking
around Paris, sometimes I'll look up at some
beautiful window like this and wonder
"Who's the fortunate person who gets to tend
those geraniums?"  Once upon a time it was me
(though hardly in digs that elegant!), and
I'm still hoping it will be again.

The Back 40

As someone whose only outdoor space is a
fire escape that I'm not even allowed to go out
on, I really do appreciate visiting my friends down
in Virginia.  They have 40-something acres
(no mule though) out there beyond this
nice brick patio.  Renovation of the stables
back there is still a work in progress.

up close and personal

Does anyone else find red flowers very
hard to photograph?  I keep trying, though,
and maybe one of these days I'll capture one just the
way I want it to look.  Meanwhile, here's a little
(about an inch across) bloom from my rescued geranium.

Ruby Tuesday

Red is such a difficult color to capture,
so I hope I've done justice to these gorgeous
geraniums that I found this past weekend
at my local greenmarket here in Brooklyn.
