More Power to You

Although I would never take
 for granted
the digital camera that captured this
shot from a speeding train—or want to give up the
camera or the train—it would be fun to travel back
in
time just to see what this beautiful Virginia
countryside looked like without the power lines
(and some of our other not-so-attractive mod cons).

Somewhere . . .

Last Saturday, I posted a very film noir-ish
image taken from a moving train.  On the same
trip, I also captured this much happier image.

The Weekend in Black and White

I was on a train, speeding up the Northeast Corridor
(between Washington, D.C. and New York City).
Fortunately, I had my camera in my hand when we
passed by this photogenic—I think—power grid.

Gunpowder River

I rode the train from Virginia back to
NYC earlier this week.  All I remembered
about this shot was that I took it
somewhere between DC and Baltimore.
But iPhoto very kindly informs me that this is
the Gunpowder River, an inlet of Chesapeake Bay.

My kid went to Alaska

and all I got was . . . this awesome image!

She hung halfway out of the train to capture
this,  just so her mama could use it here.
Thanks for fueling my obsessions, Katie.

Weekend Reflections

I recently traveled from Virginia to NYC on
the train (where business class is actually
affordable and you don't have to remove your
shoes before you board).  I found this somber
winter reflection just outside Washington, D.C.

tracks

Couldn't decide what to post today, then I went
(as always) to bombay clicks and got inspired.
Thanks, Rahul.
Train travel isn't as sexy as it used to be, unfortunately.
Pulled into the Bologna train station once on the Eurostar,
saw the Orient Express on the next platform—all shiny
black and gleaming brass—and (literally) gasped. Maybe
one day (if I win the lottery).
