Weekend Reflections

If you plan to visit Venice in winter, better
pack your Wellies.  Last time I was there it was
November and I was not prepared for the
daily aqua alta.  This bird
managed to find the only
 (semi) dry
spot in all of Piazza San Marco.

The Weekend in Black and White

"The birds fly south for the winter not
because it is cold, but because they have wings."
—Jarod Kintz

(Of course, this is the guy who also said, "She called
it a slap, but I called it a high-five to my face.")

I'm ready for my closeup

Finally!  NYC birds are not like the cooperative
(and much larger) ones I photographed in the Galapagos.

I'm always trying to shoot the birds in the botanic garden, and
they tend to flit off the very second I get my camera to

my eyeball.  But this little birdie landed a couple
of feet away and posed for me for at least 30 seconds
(never took his eye off me though).

ABC Wednesday—B is for "blue-footed boobie"

Been saving this one since I got back from
the Galapagos (we were up to the letter M then).
The males attract females by doing a courtship
dance
with their big blue feet—if the female
is impressed, then she joins in.

Blue Monday

This little bird was not watching
me take his picture—he had his eye on
the cat, who was playing it cool nearby.

Mellow Yellow Monday

The friends I visited recently in Montauk have
 installed birdfeeders near their deck.
Maybe it's because I'm a city girl (who can't stand
pigeons), but I was a bit surprised to find that
it's actually very entertaining to watch all
the different species of birds that
come to visit (these are finches—and I love
the jaunty stance of the one on the right).

photo hunter - "birds"

Saw this woman walking around the Union
Square greenmarket this summer with her
two feathered friends. I'm hoping she has
specific "bird clothes" and then some that
remain unpecked. P.S.—those birds
were LOUD.
