autumn

Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny fall
day here in Brooklyn, perfect
for a walk in the Botanic Garden (if you
weren't one of the 50,000+ running
the NYC marathon, that is).
This
time of year, it pays to look up!

starting to turn

Not quite "leaf-peeping" season here
in Brooklyn yet.  (Usually, I
just wake up one morning to find
that it's happened overnight.)
This tree, however, has decided to go
from green to gold in patches.

Today's Flowers

Yes, it is getting to be
that time of year again.
Still, I just re-upped my membership
at the botanic garden in my neighborhood,
because I think there's something beautiful to
be found there in every season.

ABC Wednesday—R is for "rose"

I just loved this bright pink rose blooming
in November (and trying to give the
turning leaves a bit of competition maybe?).

autumn in miniature

The trees around here took their sweet time
going from green to yellow/orange/red—but this
bonsai on display at the New York Botanical Garden
got with the program in a more timely fashion.

Autumn red

I live a five-minute walk from the
Brooklyn Botanic Garden, but last weekend
I visited the NY Botanical Garden, which is up in
the Bronx.  Considering that it's almost November,
I was a bit surprised at how many different
plants were in bloom—including these beauties.

Shadow Shot Sunday

It was a mild autumn day in Central Park, and
this young family was making the most of it.
Though
did not take this picture recently, we're currently
enjoying a pretty nice weekend (much like this)—yay!

Ruby Tuesday

Though there's still lots of green, the water
lilies are now starting to turn with the season.

And the lily pads too.

Thursday Challenge—"autumn"

There are still plenty of green leaves
clinging to the trees in Brooklyn,
but they're starting to turn. Don't think
we'll be in full "leaf-peeping" season
here until close to Thanksgiving.

Mellow Yellow/Macro Monday

"You can't hide your true colors as you approach the autumn of your life."

{I can't find the author of this quote, but
have to agree with whoever he/she was.}

Thursday Challenge — "autumn"

The leaves on the tree that "grows in Brooklyn"
are finally beginning to turn.  Don't know if it's global
warming or what, but I was starting to wonder if
we were ever going to see this around here.

Skywatch Friday

Time to get out and pick six bushels of
beautiful apples, so you can make more
pies than you could ever possibly need
for your Thanksgiving feast, then try to
figure out what to do with the rest of your
harvest. Just kidding. Apple picking is
such a treat on a gorgeous autumn day,
especially for us city dwellers. Go for it—
you can always share the bounty with your
local food bank or soup kitchen. [This photo
is compliments of my daughter Lila. I'm
pretty sure she'll be baking us an awesome
apple pie on Thanksgiving!]

It's beginning . . .

The turning of the leaves, that is. I was
starting to think it wasn't going to happen
this autumn for whatever reason— our very
wet summer, global warming, who knows.
So, are the leaves turning where you are?

autumn in New York

Well . . . in Brooklyn. Prospect Park, to be exact.
We had a gorgeous, crisp, sunny fall day here
today—hope yours was just as glorious.
