And not just any old water lilies. Apparently, I timed my visit to Giverny last July to see Monet's flowers blooming pretty much as they were when he painted them. [To see more ABC posts, go here.] |

Dragons Can Fly
Took this shot at the same pond where I took yesterday's lotus flower. I'd like to thank this delicate dragonfly for posing on the water-lily petal long enough for me to take his picture—from 5 or 6 feet away. [Linking back to Macro Monday and Nature Footstep/Catching the Light.] |

In the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the water lilies are perfectly placed to capture the late-afternoon light. [To see more June flowers, visit Tina's Picstory. To see more shots that catch the light, go here.] |

Though there's still lots of green, the water lilies are now starting to turn with the season. |
And the lily pads too. [To see more Ruby Tuesday, go here.] |

Mellow Yellow/Macro Monday
"But it chanced the other day that I scented a white water lily ... it is the emblem of purity ... What confirmation of our hopes is in the fragrance of this flower! It suggests ... that the time may come when men's deeds will smell as sweet." —Henry David Thoreau, "Slavery in Massachusetts" (1854) [To see more Mellow Yellow, go here. Thursday Challenge: "growing"
At the moment, this is the most beautiful thing growing in my favorite garden. (Just my opinion, but still . . .) [To see more of the Thursday Photo Challenge, go here.] |

water lily
They're in bloom at the garden, and I've
taken lots of pictures of them. Most are
fully opened, floating on the surface of
the pond and very colorful, but for
some reason, this is the one that just
completely blew me away.
