ABC Wednesday—H is for "home"

Coming in for a landing at JFK, and we'll
be wheels on the ground in about
five minutes.  The strip of land at the top of
the picture is Atlantic Beach, in Queens.

ABC Wednesday—H is for "hot peppers"

These were on display on a sunny early-winter
morning at my local greenmarket.
They're not really part of my recipe repertoire,
but they sure are pretty, aren't they?

ABC Wednesday—H is for "heirloom"

This is what's left of a child's tea set
that was brought here from France in the
1800s by my great-grandmother.
(This is all of it that I inherited from my
grandmother, and I'm pleased that it's still intact.)

ABC Wednesday—H is for "hands"

 . . . and also for Hungarian.
These are the very talented hands of
my favorite young artist, Maté Orr.

And here's a detail from a painting (Maté is his
own best model) that was hanging
up in
his Budapest studio on the day we went to visit.

ABC Wednesday—H is for "hair"

Looks like this lady was at Galeries Lafayette last
November for the same reason I was—to
take pictures of their newly installed Christmas
décor.  But I was also fascinated by her 'do
and wanted to ask all about it (but didn't, oh well).

ABC Wednesday—H is for "hookah"

Passed this restaurant on LaGuardia Place, in the
Village, recently.  I'm seeing more and more
places where you can top off your meal
with a few drags on a water pipe.
Is this a trend where you live as well?

ABC Wednesday—H is for "heron"

This great bearded heron looks a bit like a
grumpy old man in a gray overcoat, doesn't it?
The only one of its kind that we saw in the Galapagos,
this bird was strolling along a lava field on
Isla
Santiago (and like all the creatures we encountered,
on land or in the sea, not the least bit bothered by us).

ABC Wednesday—H is for "hydrangeas"

They're blooming all over the neighborhood right now, in
shades that range from white to pink to deep, deep blue.
This one is a lacecap hydrangea—isn't it beautiful?
