ABC Wednesday—L is for "Lucy"

I'm thinking of my darling grandmother today,
on what would have been her 130th birthday (this
photo was taken circa 1900). Miss Lucy did
make it to 94 and even at that age could rattle off

the stats of every player on her favorite
baseball team.  She was a steel magnolia, a Southern
cook of the first order—and my, the woman could work a hat!

  2. Speaking of coincidences, I have spent the greater part of the day going through old photographs. My own paternal grandmother would be 136 this year, maternal grandmother 144.

I suspect your grandmother was a talented infielder in her youth and may just have inspired from afar a Beatles song. You know: “Lucy caught some flies on diamonds.”

I also suspect that she chose that hat because its size was the closest she could find to match her halo.

  3. Old memories, who doesn't cherish them! The older we get the more we appreciate them and need them.
    Have a great week.

    1. The Baltimore Orioles—then the Mets (who somehow started doing better when she moved up North to live with my parents and became a fan).

    2. Ah, the Orioles were the St. Louis Browns until 1954.
