Shadow Shot Sunday

Yikes!—where's the bug spray?
This cool (or creepy—your choice)) model of
an anapheles mosquito has been on display
at the Museum of Natural History since 1917.

  2. Yikes (3)!

The overall chiaroscuro and colors are really nice in your photo.

Not to worry. When they get that big their eyesight goes haywire, as you can see from this guy who had to be scraped off the side of a building it didn’t notice, here.

  3. That is quite an unnerving sight! Those long legs cast some rather impressive shadows!

  6. Glad it is in a museum. They are big here, but not that extreme.

  7. This museum was a short distance from my grandparents and I remember many adventures there as a young child.

This is a bit scary and he would be difficult to swat!

  10. Excellent photo. The size of the mosquito reminds me of those old sci-fi movies where "radiation" created giant insects that tried to take over the earth.

  11. Even tiny mosquitoes are annoying. I can't imagine having to tolerate one this big!

A SHADOW THE SIZE OF THE SUN

If I had a shadow the size of the sun,
I’m not sure how fast I’d be able to run,
Or if I could flee from its ravenous jaws,
While keeping away from its razor-sharp claws!
