Photo hunt — "dark"

"It was a dark and stormy night."
Actually, it really was.  We've been having some strange weather
around here lately.  As if two tornadoes weren't enough,
a couple of weeks ago I came out of the subway to find leaves
and branches strewn everywhere—the aftermath of a torrential hailstorm,
with hailstones the size of eyeballs.  My building's super
told me that every single car alarm on the block went off.
Can't quite decide whether I'm grateful or disappointed that,
once again, I was underground and missed the show.

  2. More than dark ! With the "aftershock" impression, it is the dark side of darkness !!
Hate hailstones. I'd rather be underground !!

  3. And I'm glad you didn't have a car out in that show, Alexa. Cars and hail aren't a happy combination. Lovely afterglow in your photo, though.

  10. Stunning! People don't realize just how alone you can be on a New York street. And New York can be so beautiful!

I remember back in the winter of 1996 my husband and I went in to Manhattan (we lived on City Island) and it was starting to snow. By the time we got into Manhattan, the snow was falling in large, fluffy flakes. We rounded the corner at "The Church Around the Corner" and the trees in church yard were lit up with fairy lights and it was magical!

Of course, by the time we got back to City Island, people had stripped the shelves bare of milk and bread and they thought we'd been crazy for heading out in the snow. Hell, we're from Canada... it was just a small snowstorm for us.

But we had the streets to ourselves and it was lovely!
