New York at Night (15)

5th Avenue, 8pm

These food vendors are everywhere, and I see lots

of people grabbing lunch or a quick snack from them.
Everyone needs to make a living and
I'm pretty
sure the Health Dept. checks these carts out.
That said—maybe I'm just chicken, but I've never
eaten this food and probably never will.

New York at Night (13)

Times Square, Tuesday at 8 PM—
the crowds here make me nuts at
pretty
much any hour of the day or night.
On the one hand, I'm glad they
cleaned this area up.  On the other . . .

Walk in the Street

Madison Avenue, between &70th & 71st.
These boys were with their dad, waiting
on line at the opening of the Ladurée
store in NYC.  If they'd known what a
treat they were in for (macarons!), they
probably wouldn't have been able to
concentrate so hard on that game.

Walk in the Street

Andy Warhol's getting another 15 minutes.
This life-size chrome statue, by sculptor
Rob Pruitt, stands (until next month, I hear) in
Union Square, very near the site of the Factory
(the one from the '70s), across the park from Max's Kansas City
(where I met him in the '60s), and very close to where
he used to stand and hand out copies of Interview.

Walk in the Street

Found this painter and his subjects in Washington
Square Park—from the look on that woman's face, I'm
thinking these folks have been posing here for a while!

Walk in the Street

This reminds me that I really need to wash
my windows.  Fortunately, I can do it myself
the old-fashioned way—no hydraulics required
(like here, at the Richard Meier building next door).

Walk in the Street

This guy was entertaining the kids who
came with their parents to shop at my
local greenmarket in Brooklyn. The very next

day, I passed by the Alice in Wonderland statue
in Central Park—and there he was again.

Challenge: Walk in the Street

They set up a block party/street fair near my office
last Friday (kind of unusual for a weekday
in midtown).  I was surprised to see people lined up
for fried Oreos. (Might possibly be delish, but . . . seriously?)
So what's your favorite forbidden food?

Challenge: Walk in the Street

While walking in the street in Venice, I encountered this
charming gondoliere and his friend.  I tried to take the shot
surreptitiously, but they caught me—and smiled anyway.  Grazie!

Balloon Boy 3

Looks like someone is celebrating their 80th birthday!
I love it when I see some random guy walking
down the street (or riding the subway!) with
a big bouquet of colorful balloons.  This one
seems to have a full complement of tattoos too.
