Thursday Challenge—"motion"

Caught this biker pedaling past Tiffany's
back in October.  Since the election,
with Trump Tower right next door, the
barricades are always up and
the police are a permanent presence.
Wonder how the folks at Tiffany feel about that.

Did you vote?

This billboard was parked in front of Tiffany's
on Fifth Avenue, on the same block
as the Trump Building.
I doubt that he would want this there.
The SOS is spelled out with hands (though
not especially small ones).
Still, I don't think it
was created by any
 of his supporters.
BTW, just to get past the building I had to
deal with crowds, barricades, and police with guns,
large dogs, and a nasty attitude.  I can't wait
for this election to be over.

nice shoes

Not really so much a mural as a billboard, I guess.
Someone decided that a photo of one
well-dressed woman wearing those shoes
wouldn't be nearly as effective as three naked ones,
all wearing those shoes.  Honestly, I can't
say they were wrong.

ABC Wednesday—B is for "Bill Cunningham"

Those young women were there for the same
reason I was: to pay homage and snap
a picture for posterity of the sign the city placed
at the corner of 5th Avenue and 57th Street.
Bill Cunningham was the New York Times's
"roving fashion photographer" and this corner was
one of his favorite spots for catching candid shots of
NYC's fashionable women.  His photos could be
seen in the Sunday Times Style section every week.
He will be missed!

moon over Manhattan

When I came out of the Metropolitan Museum
last Friday, the moon—big and hazy—
was rising over the city.

Weekend Reflections

Reflections—and reflections of reflections—at
a chic design emporium on Fifth Avenue.

Happy Christmas!

Another Fifth Avenue holiday window.
If you're celebrating today, I hope
you're having a blessed Christmas—and one
filled with family, good food, and fun.

inSPIREd Sunday

I took this shot of the spires St. Patrick's Cathedral

the day before Pope Francis arrived.  Already
there were barricades set up along the length of this
block (and many others)—24 hours later, I

would not have braved the crowds.

inSPIREd Sunday

This is St. Thomas Episcopal Church,
and I was pretty much the only
person in here on a recent Friday evening.
That's most likely because everyone else
was down the street at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
(However, they probably get a few butts in the seats

when its world-famous boys' choir is singing.)

Weekend Reflections

Not entirely sure what the dressers were thinking
when they fashioned this window for the
Ferragamo store on Fifth Avenue.  Whatever—
it definitely suits my (reflective) purposes!

Ruby Tuesday

Back in July, I posted this shot of another
Louis Vuitton window, which I didn't
"get" at the time.  But recently I passed
by this LV store on Fifth Avenue.

Right away, I found a little clue.

Then even more little clues.

And finally, the biggest one of all.  By this
time I'd recognized Yayoi Kusama—turns
out she's been having a big show at the Whitney
and she collaborated on the design of these windows.

Skywatch Friday

This is the Sherry Netherland Hotel, at 5th
and 59th. My high-school French teacher's
parents actually lived here. Wonder if they'd
be able to afford it now.
BTW, this place has pretty much the
same view as Tuesday's terrace.

Veteran's Day parade

I actually forgot this parade was taking place yesterday.
Then I went to a yoga class at my fave studio, which
overlooks 5th Ave., and snapped these shots before
and after class. It's interesting to do yoga to the strains
of "The Marine Hymn" playing in the background.
In the first shot: the biggest flag I've ever seen. In the
second: front and center, our once and future mayor
—the guy who bypassed term limits and spent $100
million on his effort to be (successfully) reelected. (Do
you need to ask me what I think??)
