ABC Wednesday—X is for "Xmas"

I love to walk around my "brownstone
Brooklyn" neighborhood and see
how people have decorated for the holidays.
I like all the white lights on this house
(and even the random leftover pumpkin)!

The Weekend in Black and White

A couple of weeks ago, I showed a little
snow and said how glad I was
there wasn't more.  As predicted, we did
get something more serious.  It wasn't
quite as bad as this, but high winds made it
a challenge for a small(ish) person
to get across some streets.

Monday Mellow Yellows

These yellow and orange flowers 
shone through the snow and
added a spot of bright color to my
Brooklyn neighborhood.

cubbies

I recently switched allegiance to a new nail salon.
These little drawers for regulars' personal
polish reminded me of the restaurant Chartier,
in Paris, where some faithful customers
would get to store their own napkin in a cubby
much like these (although, granted, a bit
more elegant—it's Paris, after all).

ABC Wednesday—N is for "neighborhood"

I live in "brownstone Brooklyn," but not
in one of these old beauties.  I opted
instead for a prewar apartment building: waaay
more closet space but—unfortunately—no
stoop (I'm a big fan of these imposing stoops).

It's all yours

When one of my Brooklyn neighbors puts something
on their fence like this, it's usually an invitation
to passersby to help themselves.  I didn't
want the painting, but I did think it added
 a nice bit of color to the stoop.

Shadow Shot Sunday

I took this shot on Sterling Place, in my Park Slope,
Brooklyn neighborhood.  The residents of this block
are very proud to have earned the 2nd-place prize in this
year's Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest, which is
sponsored by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
(One of them told me that this spot at the back of
a commercial building used to be a place where people
dumped garbage—and look at it now.)

Ruby Tuesday

Toward the end of this day in my Park Slope,
Brooklyn neighborhood, the trees on Carroll Street
were all mostly red and even the brownstones
were tinged with pink from the setting sun.

Hair today . . .

I was walking around my Brooklyn neighborhood 
when I spotted this woman with very
 interesting blue "hair." (And what would I 
do with this photo if I didn't have a blog?)

abc wednesday - R is for "real estate"

Even if I won the lottery big-time, I'd still stay in

Brooklyn (with an apt. in Paris as well, of course)—

probably in my own nabe of Park Slope (#1 in

New York Magazine's list of best NYC 

neighborhoods). Although . . . if I had the

bucks and this charming converted carriage

house in Brooklyn Heights came on the market,

I might be seriously tempted!

Mellow Yellow Monday

Unfortunately for Mellow Yellow purposes,

International Waffle Day (March 24) was on

a Wednesday this year. These waffles are Belgian, 

but IWD originated in Sweden.

("God dag, Sven—let's have some waffles and 

celebrate the end of that long, dark

winter!") So if you figured out where this

truck would be (that day, it was parked on 

46th Street between 5th and 6th Aves.) and you wore

 something yellow, they'd give you one

 free waffle.  Nice PR, eh?

The Treats Truck

You really can't argue with their catch phrase,

because—hey—treats ARE good!  They even have

gift certificates, and all you need to do when

you want to cash one in for a yummy treat . . .

is figure out where in the 5 boroughs 

that truck is parked.

Okay, I'm kidding of course.  At least I've never

seen them anywhere but here.

I'm always amused when I pass this house in

my neighborhood.  It reminds me of one of

my kids' favorite storybooks.

This new store . . .

. . . in my neighborhood is run by some lovely Tibetans.

They sell beautiful things, and I give them my custom as

much as possible.  Hope they're successful with this venture.
