Think pink!

Last month, the Luxembourg Gardens
were a riot of pink—in the flower urns and . . .

everywhere!  It was a glorious sight.

Jardin du Luxembourg

The Luxembourg Palace (now the headquarters 
of the French senate) was built between 
1615 and 1645 for Marie de Medici, widow of Henri IV.
It was passed down through various members 
of her family, was at one time the home of the scandalous 
Duchess du Berry, and was taken over by 
Hermann Göring during the German occupation.

Weekend Reflections

The lovely Medici Fountain, in the
Jardin du Luxembourg—a wonderful spot
to stop a while and reflect (!) on how
lucky I was to be in Paris on a 
beautiful summer day.

Blue Monday

One of my fave Paris pastimes is to spend a
while watching the little kids with these low-tech,
no-motor, no-remote-control sailing ships.
You can rent them to sail in the pond in the Tuileries ...

and also in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

The Medici Fountain

The fountain was built for Maria de Medici in
the 1600s (despite the fact that at that
time they had to haul water all the way from the Seine
to fill it) in what's now the Jardin du Luxembourg.
 (Polyphemus Surprising Acis and Galatea 
was a 19th-century addition.)

père et fils

On a sunny Sunday in September, 
what could be more fun than
going to the Jardin du Luxembourg
with your papa and sailing your
boat in the pond?

I caught it!

Not the best picture ever, but I caught it
"on the fly"—kind of the way this little girl on
the carrousel in the Jardin du Luxembourg
had just captured the brass ring.

Un jeune marin

This young Parisien was having a good time (despite
the cold—and where are his gloves?) sailing
his boat in the pond at the Jardin du Luxembourg.

When the boat comes close to "shore," the
stick is used to send it off again.
