Thursday Challenge—"flight"

This was the view from Flight 5164,
the last time I returned home
from a trip down to Virginia.  (And if I'd
been on the other side of the plane
I could have seen my apartment building
just then as we flew over Brooklyn.)

The Weekend in Black and White

Who knows what's missing from this skyline?
Hint: This photo was taken in 2011 from
a boat on the Hudson River, and there are

actually two correct answers.

Where's the fire?

I've never seen a NYC fire boat at work, but
usually when they're in "ceremonial"
mode, with water spraying in all directions.
First time was when they joined the tall ships here
on the Hudson on July 4, 1976; last time was
when one of them accompanied the Queen Mary 2

as she made her way out of the Buttermilk
Channel on her way home to England (see here).

Hudson River sailboats

Another beautiful autumn day in New York
(and Jersey City, across the river).  Wish it could
stay like this at least until December.

Blue Moon

Found this beauty hanging over the
Hudson River one day (yes, day) last week.
Fortunately, I had my camera with me—
because as much as I love my iPhone,
I can't zoom in like this with it.

ABC Wednesday—C is for "Colgate clock"

This clock has been here in Jersey City,
across the Hudson from lower Manhattan,
for 90 years.  Now it's about to get a makeover.
 Last month, the hands were removed;
ultimately, the whole thing will be
taken down and put back up with a better
foundation, new steel, and LED lights.

New York at Night (11)

Last weekend I went on one of those touristy but fun
dinner cruises around Manhattan. The food was only
okay, but the views were great (even on a misty night)!
This was taken from the Hudson River, looking at the
spot downtown where the Trade Towers used to be.

skywatch Friday

Oh, I do love to watch the sun set over
New Jersey. Somehow, all those chemicals
that they're cooking over there really
add to the whole effect.
