so live it up, drink it down, laugh it off, avoid the drama, take chances, never have regrets*—and don't forget to stop and smell the roses. {*often attributed to Marilyn Monroe, who may or may not have ever said this— whether she did or not, it's still good advice} [To see more Monday Mellow Yellow posts, go here.] |
Beauty in the offense... great photo!
ReplyDeleteYes, one tends to contemplate the words of Robert Herrick in his poem:
ReplyDeleteTo the Virgins, to Make Much of Time.
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
To-morrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And, while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may forever tarry.
So as roses of Alexa’s eye
Though petals be afalling
The question ever answered, “Why?”
Just make some cash by selling.
Artistic shot.

This was said by golfer Walter Hagen I believe.
ReplyDeleteClose but not quite. The Walter Hagen quote is: “You're only here for a short visit. Don't hurry, don't worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”
DeleteFrom reading other things she did say, as quoted at this site, my feeling is that the quote above from “Nothing lasts forever...” to the asterisk (and especially that “...because at one point everything you did was exactly what you wanted” bit beyond the asterisk) wasn’t something Marilyn would be inclined to say.
ReplyDeleteSome nice carpe diem quotes here. Pages of them.
Great linkage, TG. I find I relate to the women's quotes (no surprise there, I guess)—including the real ones from MM.
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteNice shot
