There are now more of these shops around Paris, but this is the original—in business in this location for 254 years. I've read that the dancers from the Folies Bérgère, just up the street, would come here for something sweet (and there's plenty here to kick up your heels over). I like that artist of the graffito, using a fine-point spray can, was considerate enough not to obscure either signage or windows.
ReplyDeleteAs for French dessert wines, I liked the Chenin Blanc-based Bonnezeaux sweet wine from the Loire Valley that I had. But, perhaps the best wine I have ever had, I believe around 1997, was Chateaux d’Yquem. I can’t remember the vintage, just that the guy who brought it to the tasting said it was a 100 pointer. Indeed it was. Leaping to my feet in astonished drunken befuddlement I interrobanged, “How do you get coconut like this out of a grape‽”
Nice how the contents of the window display blend seamlessly with the reflection.
I love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous about your upcoming trip but I can't wait to read about it and see pictures. :-)
254years old. That is amazing and there is so much going on with the display and the reflection.
ReplyDeleteWonderful color coordination of the gold in the sign and the red in the reflection. Great reflection. Would love to be there.
ReplyDeleteI love this photo, the reflection in the window is lovely.

ReplyDeleteI would say you caught the present in the past, in this reflection, very nice!
ReplyDeleteThat is a terrific reflection.
ReplyDeleteI still find it hard to get my head around a store being in business for 254 years. In Paris, throw all Sugar-Shaming to the winds, I say !! Beautiful photo, Alexa.
