inSPIREd Sunday

This is the church of Santa Maria Assunta,
more commonly called the Gesuiti,
in Venice.  I showed the façade on this post.
But to me the interior is what's special—
the "fabric" (valance, fringe, and tassels too) draped
around this pulpit are all made of marble.

  1. If you hadn’t written it it would be hard to believe that all that we see projecting here had been carved in marble. Brilliant. Awe striking.

(I hate to toot my own horn but it is a little known fact that I have been known to do my own carving into certain kinds of marble.)

  4. From the photo, this looks like fabric. The skill and patience of the sculptor are amazing.
