ABC Wednesday—N is for "Netherlands"

And a pretty canal in the just-
quiet-enough district
of Jordaan, in Amsterdam.

ABC Wednesday—N is for "Norway"

We'd be coming in for a landing soon
in Oslo—
and you'd hardly know you were
a quick train ride from the city.

ABC Wednesday—N is for "night"

And also for northern New Jersey, which is
what I could see all lit up at midnight as
we made our way up the coast from NC to NY.

ABC Wednesday—N is for "Nutella"

Good American that I am (well . . . )
I still prefer peanut butter.  But I do know
some folks for whom this might not

be a several-lifetimes supply.
(Speaking of Americans, I hope you got your
taxes done and are expecting a big, fat refund.)

ABC Wednesday—N is for "Notre Dame"

I know—this picture is such a clichĂ©.  But
you know what my favorite part* of
this huge church is?  Those little red doors
on either side, right at the roofline.
I would love to know what's behind them.

*Okay, my second favorite. First are the bells;
I don't like the climb but I love to
be right next to the belfry when they toll.

ABC Wednesday—N is for "niche"

And also "Non, non, Madame!"
Usually these little courtyards are well-hidden
behind massive locked doors.  So if I ever
find one that's open, I have to seize the moment
to sneak in and take some photos before the concierge
kicks me out (fortunately not before I got a

shot of these pretty vine-shaded doors and the
eclectic mix of statuary in the niche).

ABC Wednesday—N is for "neighbors"

Just hanging out on Flatbush Avenue:
There are some elements of this building that remind

me of Paris.  (The guy with the gun, I mean umbrella, not so much.)
Like most of the neighborhoods here in Brooklyn, this one
is
slowly but surely—and for better or worse—becoming gentrified.

ABC Wednesday—N is for "NOT afraid of heights"

Like yesterday's photo, this one
is also not for acrophobics.

To put those guys in perspective,
I took these shots from my
24th-floor office and they're
even higher up than that.

Notre Dame at Night

All lit up like this, against the dark sky—
it takes my breath away every single time!
