Weekend in Black and White

Even though this was taken in a church on Murano,
nothing was lost by shooting it in black and white.
You might think that all the windows, etc. on
this Venetian island famous for its colorful glass would
be done in brilliant hues, but this window—and the
chandelier—are both clear glass (and still beautiful).

Shadow Shot Sunday

I've seen glassblowers at work, but I still can't imagine how
this oversized statue—on Murano, of course—was made.

Thursday Challenge — "hot"

Almost any shot I've taken in the past few
weeks here in NYC should qualify, but
the glassblowers of Murano have to deal
with summer temps—and this too.

abc wednesday - M is for "Murano"

Murano is the island just off Venice where
the glassblowers had to relocate (in 1291)
because of the very real risk of fire. They're still
"doing their thing" here (love those
chandeliers) more than 700 years later!

[See how others interpret "M" at ABC
Wednesday, here.]

abc Wednesday — O is for "om"

Not the sort of thing one expects to find
in Italy perhaps—but the savvy glassblowers
on Murano aren't exactly marketing their
wares to the locals. (I like it because it
matches my tattoo.)

Aaaah, MuranoI'm so not into the
tchotchkes, but the chandeliers . . .

locals

Took these shots in Murano (the man who
delivers the all-important bubble wrap),
Venice (a guy who's very much at home on his boat),
Florence (a waiter with a great face),

and Siena (I couldn't walk in those shoes
on cobblestones if you paid me!).
