A Quiet Sunday in the Financial District

Thursday Challenge—city

As you might imagine, considering where I live,
my problem here was trying to decide which image to
choose.  I finally lighted on this one, taken recently,
of downtown Manhattan.  You're looking south from the
Brooklyn Bridge at the financial district (and the
blue-and-silver building 2nd from right was for a semester
my daughter Lila's snazzy NYU dorm-with-a-view).

Thursday Challenge: Metallic

This soon-to-be completed 76-story
Frank Gehry building on Spruce Street, in the
financial district, will be New York's
tallest residential tower. It's clad in 18-gauge
stainless steel and the shallow setbacks make it appear
to ripple in the sunlight—pretty cool.

security

They don't take a lot of chances in this neck
of our woods. Took these two shots on
Martin Luther King Day, when pretty much
no one was at work down here in the
Financial District.  Even so, just try to get
anywhere near the Stock Exchange in a vehicle. Don't
actually know what's on the streets where
they've put up these barriers—but I'll just trust their
judgement and figure better safe than sorry.

NY Sightseeing

Took this shot WAY downtown, when I was
on my way to catch the Staten Island Ferry.
(BTW, daughter Katie works in this building.)
Have often thought it would be interesting to
take one of these buses, just to see what new
things I might learn about my hometown.  Have
you ever taken a sightseeing tour where you live?
