The Weekend in Black and White

Last weekend I stopped by to visit my
favorites at the Central Park Zoo.
I know the snow leopards are actually
quite fierce, but this cross-eyed
kitty looks like a total pussy cat to me.

Thursday Challenge: Family

I watched this family of snow monkeys
for a long time. The little one was being
total pest—and if he was looking for
attention from his elders, he definitely got it.
Looks like he knows he's in trouble now!

abc wednesday - Z is for "zoo"

These are the charming sea lions that
put on a show for the folks at the
Central Park Zoo a couple of times a day.
When I was a kid, for a long while
I wanted to be one of the keepers. Still
think that would be a really cool job.

[Wonder how many others chose "zoo"—
check it out here.]

abc wednesday - S is for "snow leopard"

Finally got a look at one of the new
snow leopards in her million-dollar
habitat at the Central Park Zoo. Isn't
she beautiful? I know that here she
looks like a real pussycat (so to speak)—
but although these cats are not that
big, they are very fierce! Check it out.

I found it!

—the elusive bluebird of happiness.  Or maybe not.
Actually, this is a fairy bluebird, native to the
southern Himalayas.  This gorgeous male now lives
(happily, I trust) in the Rain Forest
at the Central Park Zoo.

It's all happenin' at the zoo

I believe I told you a while back that there
would be polar bears and monkeys. Wouldn't
want to break such a promise, so I made a
little visit to the Central Park Zoo.
The bear is Aida—she's 22 years old (the
keeper told me that polar bears live about
15 years in the wild, but more like 25 in
captivity) and she weighs 500 pounds.

And these are snow monkeys; the little one
was being a real pest, so one of the adults
finally turned around and told him to get
lost (in so many words).
