ABC Wednesday—F is for "frieze"



And also for the church of the Frari, in Venice,  
where this angel can be found.  Not sure
about the symbolism here, but I do wonder 

what's supposed to be in that urn.  I'd say ashes,
except that I believe that when this was created,
the Catholic Church didn't exactly condone cremation.

  1. i think you are right.... my thougt is that in that urn would be myrrh . but i can't say for sure, because its a guess

  4. She looks so vibrant, I can hardly conceive of her holding an urn of ashes. I would rather think of her as trying to urn a living.
