abc wednesday —P is for "polar bear"

These are (again) compliments of my daughter Katie,
taken while she was on her latest trip up above
the Arctic Circle.  The polar bear woke up . . .

had a nice yawn, a stretch, and a scratch . . .
and got a whiff of the ice cutter Kate was on
(or, more likely, the people on the ship).
So it lumbered over—
and when it finally realized
that this big snack was out of its reach, it
sauntered off and went back to sleep.

  4. How does an ice cutter sneak up on a polar bear without disturbing her sleep? I have heard of silent running but the ship must have been on tiptoes.

You are funny. “Snacks,” like the Gary Larson cartoon: Two polar bears biting into an igloo: "I love these things. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.”

Things weren’t always so easy. Here she is as a young cub...

Bottom photo: “I’ll pretend I’m walking away, then I’m “pole” vaulting on deck. I mean how hard can it be?

  5. Now, that's exquisite. I think I'd have to be restrained from dangling off the side to pat it, though ~ my head knows it would possibly eat me, but my heart would want to believe otherwise.

  8. I'm envious of Katie. I'm not much of a traveller but I'd love to see the Arctic. Great photos she took.
